TOURNAMENT RULES

Tournament Format

Round Robin:
The round robin portion of the tournament will be played 5 on 5 for one 20 minute period. The first 15 minutes of the period will be run-time, and the final 5 minutes will be stop-time. If a game is tied at the end of regulation, a brief 5 minute overtime period of 3 on 3 will be played (run-time). If the game remains tied after the overtime period a shootout will commence and each team will select 3 shooters (Shooters do not have to be selected prior to the game and may be done so at the end of regulation). If it remains tied, teams will continue to trade shootout attempts 1 for 1 until a winner is decided.

NOTE: All members of a team must attempt a shot in the shootout before a player makes a second attempt, goalies cannot shoot in the shootout.

The team that finishes in first place will once again have the option of selecting who they will play in the semi-finals in addition to selecting the time slot for that game. The other two teams will square off in the other semi-final in the remaining time slot.

Championship Round:
The championship round will be played 5 on 5 for one 20 minute period (stop-time). If at the end of regulation a game is tied a sudden death overtime format will commence consisting of 10 minute periods (stop-time), with 5 minute intermissions, until a winner is decided. This applies for both semi-finals and the championship game.

All items in RED and BOLD have been revised. The following descriptions have been released by the commissioner to ratify these rules changes.

CHECK TO THE HEAD (STICK OR BODY): Regardless of object or body part, any check to the head will result in a 4 minute double minor penalty. Accidental contact will still be called, a player's stick should not be up around another player's head at anytime. This has been implemented for the safety of all players and could very easily be considered 'Attempt to Injure' depending on the severity of the incident.

BOARDING: Has been upgraded to a 4 minute double minor penalty. Hitting someone into the confines of Willowpark who is in a VULNERABLE position will not be tolerated. "Vulnerable" is important, if a player is in a vulnerable position it will not be tolerated to have someone finish him %100, especially if he is not looking. As much as it may be his own fault, this is another safety issue.

CHARGING: Has been upgraded to a 4 minute double minor. Anyone who covers an extreme distance at full speed to take a run at a player will be penalized. Anyone caught doing so to a player who is not even in the play may be punishable with 'Attempt to Injure' and could result in a suspension. Normal and acceptable contact with a player involved in the play is still acceptable.

HIGH-STICKING: Has been upgraded to a 4 minute double minor, regardless of intent or if blood is drawn. May be extreme, but this is another safety issue to promote players keeping their sticks down and using their hand to play a ball in the air and bring it down. NOTE: This only applies to contact made with another player, there is no infraction for a ball played with a high stick. The play is simply blown down for a faceoff if the team that made contact with the ball retains possession.

ATTEMPT TO INJURE: Has yet to be called in an FMC tournament and the commissioner would like to keep it that way. The major penalty and game misconduct are automatic. A suspension will be warranted after review involving the four team captains and that game's officials following the game.

FIGHTING SUSPENSIONS: Have all been upgraded. There is no offense for the first, a one game suspension for the second. Three strikes and you're out. These suspensions are set in stone and are NON-NEGOTIABLE. Everyone enjoys a fight, and they have been of little problem at the FMC. Nevertheless, the commissioner has cracked down on multiple fighting offenses.

NOTE: Any suspension (besides fighting suspension) will be review by the four team captains and officials of the game in which the incident occurred. There may be disagreement, but the majority decision will always by the ruling.

Goaltender Substitutions

If a team wishes to substitute their goaltender at any time during the course of the tournament the following rules will need to be followed:
  • The first game of the tournament must be played by the goaltender that was drafted by that respective team.
  • There are no mid-game substitutions due to time constraints.
  • If you make a goaltender substitution for the following game, the starting goaltender from the previous game must sit out that game. If you remain with this 'new' goaltender, the original may play as a regular player in the following game. However if you switch back to the original goaltender, the replacement will also have to sit out the next game.
  • If a goaltending switch is made at any point in the tournament, both goaltenders must wear the SAME equipment. Each goalie cannot have their own equipment.
  • You may only use 2 goalies for the entire tournament.
  • The timekeeper must be notified of any goaltender substitution prior to the game to make the appropriate changes on the game sheet and stat sheet.
  • You may pull your goaltender and use a sixth attacker, however your goaltender cannot remove his equipment and then play as the sixth attacker.

Trading Policy

General managers may execute trades with general managers from other teams. To execute a trade both general managers must send confirmation of the trade to the commissioner by way of email for review. Pending a successful review the trade will be accepted and players will be moved.

The trading deadline will be Friday, June 13, 2008 at Midnight.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding any of these rules please contact the commissioner.
